Swachh Survekshan: Top 10 Cleanest Cities In India

The ‘Swachh Survekshan 2016' survey was conducted in 73 cities with a population of over 10 lakh by the Government of India. This survey was based on the parameters laid down by Swachh Bharat such as access to sanitation facilities, strategy to tackle open defecation & solid waste management. These top 10 cleanest cities are among the 15 cities who scored more than 70% of the total marks of 2000 and were categorized as Leaders.

Chandigarh 

Chandigarh  ranked as the second cleanest city in India. Chandigarh is a city and  a union territory in the northern part of India. Chandigarh also serves as the capital of the states of Punjab & Haryana. As a union territory, the city is ruled by the Union Government & is not a part of either state. Chandigarh is also known as Tricity  because Chandigarh & its adjoining cities of Mohali  & Panchkula are together.Chandigarh is located near to Sivalik Hills. Mansa Devi, Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Rose Garden, open hand monument, Pinjore Garden, Morni Hills & Nada Sahib are the main attraction of Chandigarh.

Mysuru

Mysuru initially known as Mysore ranked first in the Swachh Survekshan survey. Mysuru in Karnataka is declared as the topmost clean city all over the India. Mysuru is the third largest populated city in Karnataka. The first private radio station of India was established in Mysuru. According to the name of the city there are many popular things of the city like Mysore style of painting, the sweet dish Mysore  pak, the mysuru Peta (i.e. a traditional silk turban) and the garment known as the Mysore silk saree.

Tiruchirappalli 

Tiruchirapalli ranked as the third cleanest city in India. Tiruchirapalli is also known as Trichy. Tiruchirappalli is a city in the state of Tamil Nadu & the administrative headquarters of Tiruchirappalli district. This city is the fourth largest municipal corporation & fourth largest urban agglomeration in the state. The city is an important educational center in the state of Tamil Nadu. Jambukeswarar Temple, Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Rockfort & Kaveri river are the main attraction of Tiruchirappalli.  

Delhi-NDMC

Delhi ranked as the fourth cleanest city in India. Delhi officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi is the capital territory of India. It is bordered by Haryana on three sides & by Uttar Pradesh to the east. Delhi is the second most populous city & second most populous urban agglomeration in India & third largest urban area in the world. Red Fort , India Gate, Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar & Connaught Place are the main attraction of Delhi.

Visakhapatnam  

Visakhapatnam ranked as the fifth cleanest city in India. Visakhapatnam is also known as Vizag. Visakhapatnam is the largest city, both in terms of area & population in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the coast of By of Bengal in the northeastern region of the state. Fishing is a major sector in the city & has one of the largest harbor in the country for the fishing industry & seafood exports. Visakhapatnam is also called the city of Destiny, The jewel of the East Coast, Goa of the East & Financial Capital of Andhra Pradesh. Simhachalam Temple, Visakhapatnam Port, The Kursura Submarine Museum, The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant & Ramakrishna Mission Beach are the main attraction of the city.

Surat 

Surat ranked as the sixth cleanest city in the India. Surat previously known as Suryapur is  the city in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is the administrative capital of the Surat district. It is also called the Diamond City of the World, Diamond Hub of the World, Textile City of India, Silk City, City of Bridges, Clean city & Economical Capital of Gujarat state.

Rajkot 

Rajkot ranked as the seventh cleanest city in India. Rajkot is the fourth largest city in the state of Gujarat, India, after Ahmedabad, Surat & Vadodara. Rajkot is the center of Saurashtra region of Gujarat. Rajkot is the 35th largest urban agglomeration in India with a population more than 1.2 millions of 2015. It is located on the banks of the Aji & Nyari rivers. Rajkot was the home of Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. There are so many historical places to visit like Jubilee Garden, an open park is the center of the city featuring many monuments from colonial times. Gebanshah Pir Dargah, Turkibapu's Dargah, Swaminarayan Gurukul, Masonic Hall, Jam Tower, Race Course, Aji Dam, Ramakrishna Ashram, Shri Ranchhoddas Ashram & Swaminarayan Temple are the main attraction of the Rajkot. 

Gangtok

Gangtok ranked as the eighth cleanest city in India. Gangtok is a municipality, the capital & the largest town in the Indian state of  Sikkim. It is also the headquarter of the East Sikkim district. Gangtok is located in the eastern Himalayan. The town's population of 100,000 belongs to different ethnicities such as Nepali, Lepchas & Bhutia. Gangtok is at the center of Sikkim's tourism industry. Gangtok is a center of Tibetan Buddist culture & learning, with the presence o several monasteries, religious educational institutions & centers for Tibetology. The hospitality industry is the largest industry in Gangtok as the main base for Sikkim tourism. Trekking, Mountaineering, river rafting and other nature-oriented are the main attraction of this city.

Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pimpri –Chinchwad ranked as the ninth cleanest city in India. Pimpri –Chinchwad is a part of Pune Metropolitan city te state of Maharashtra, India. It is the urban agglomeration of Pune. It consists of the towns of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Nigdi, Akurdi, Ravet, Bhosari, Pimple Gurav, Moshi, Punewale & Sangavi which are governed by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation . It is located to the northwest & is well connected to the center of Pune city via old Pune-Mumbai highway. Pimpri Chinchwad is one of the major Industrial hub in Asia. It is also known as the industrial city. The language of Pimpri Chinchwad is Marathi. Three rivers Pavana, Mula & Indrayani flow through this area. Ganesh Chaturthi is the celebrated here with a lot of joy. Bhakti shakti, Durga Devi Hill park, Science Center &  Nisargakavi Bahinabai Chaudhary Zoo are the major attraction of this city.

Greater Mumbai 

Greater Mumbai ranked as the tenth cleanest city in India. Mumbai is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India & the ninth most populous agglomeration in the world, with an estimated city population of 18.4 million. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India & has a deep natural harbor. Mumbai has the highest number of billionaires & millionaires among all cities in India. Mumbai is also known as the city of seven islands, city of dreams, Gateway of India & Hollywood of India.  Beaches are the major tourist attraction of the city. The major beaches in Mumbai are Girgaum Chowpatty, Juhu Beach, Goraj Beach, Marve Beach, Versova Beach, Madh Beach, Aksa Beach & Manori Beach. Cuffe Parade skyline, Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Bandra Worli Sea Link & Gateway of India are the major attraction of Mumbai.
