Things We All Need To Know About New Currency of 500 & 2000 Note

8th November 2016 midnight old currency of Rs 500 & 1000 were demonetized in India. In other words, old notes of 500 & 1000 no longer remain a legal tender & a valid currency. New currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000 (Instead of Rs. 1000) were issued & are being made available to all through the banks. It becomes important for all of us to become familiar with security features of the new currency. Here am sharing the important features which we all should know about these new currency bank notes.

Distinctive Features of the New Rs. 2000 Note:

  1. Size: 66mm x 166mm
  2. Colour: Magenta
  3. Theme: Motif of Mangalyan depicting country’s first venture into interplanetary space


For Visually Impaired: 
  1. Horizontal rectangle with Rs 2000 in raised print on the right
  2. 7 angular bleed lines on left and right side in raised print

Distinctive Features of the New Rs 500 Note

  1. Size: 66mm x 150mm
  2. Colour: Stone Grey
  3. Theme: Indian Heritage site – Red Fort


For Visually Impaired: 
  1. Circle with Rs 500 in raised print on the right
  2. 5 angular bleed lines on left and right side in raised print

Common Features of the New Rs. 2000 and Rs. 500 Notes:

Obverse/Front side:
  1. See-through register in denominational numeral.
  2. Latent image of the denominational numeral.
  3. Denominational numeral in Devnagari.
  4. Orientation and relative position of Mahatma Gandhi portrait changed.
  5. Windowed security thread changes color from green to blue when note is tilted.
  6. Guarantee clause Governor’s signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem shifted towards right.
  7. Portrait and electrotype watermark.
  8. Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side.
  9. Denomination in numerals with Rupee symbol in color changing ink (Green to Blue)on bottom right.
  10. Ashok Pillar emblem on the right.
For visually impaired:
Intaglio or raised printing of Mahatma Gandhi portrait, Ashoka pillar emblem, bleed lines and identification mark continue. 

Reverse/Back side:
  1. Year of printing of the note on the left.
  2. Swacch Bharat logo with slogan.
  3. Language panel towards the center.
  4. Denominational numeral on Devnagari on the right.
